Mini-Courses Provide 5-Week Study of Special Topics to Teachers, Public

 

Camden County College’s Center for Civic Leadership and Responsibility is offering five-week mini-courses on a variety of interesting topics this summer. Each will add to the personal development of community members interested in these subjects and help certified New Jersey teachers earn required professional development hours.

 

Scheduled to begin the week of June 19 and run through the end of July are:

 

• “Cry Havoc! Science Fiction Goes To War,” 4 to 6:30 Mondays, Blackwood Campus.

 

• “Keep Watching the Skies,” 4 to 6:30 p.m. Mondays, William G. Rohrer Center, Cherry Hill.

 

• “Unmitigated Disaster,” 6:30 to 9 p.m. Mondays, William G. Rohrer Center, Cherry Hill.

 

• “Better Dead than Red: America’s Anti-Communist Crusade,” 2 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Blackwood Campus.

 

• “What’s Nature Cookin’ Up? Anatomy, Physiology and Evolution’s Effects,” 4 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Blackwood Campus.

 

• “The Effects of Genocide on Women,” 4 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays, William G. Rohrer Center, Cherry Hill.

 

• “The American War Film,” 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays, Blackwood Campus.

 

• “Ronald Wilson Reagan: An Icon for Our Time,” 4 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Blackwood Campus.

 

• “Addiction: A Societal Problem,” 6:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays, Blackwood Campus.

 

• “The Meaning of Happiness,” 4 to 6:30 p.m. Thursdays, Blackwood Campus.

 

• “Red Tails: The Tuskegee Airmen’s Fight for the Right to Fight and the Role of the Black Press in That Struggle,” 4 to 6:30 p.m. Thursdays, Camden City Campus.

 

• “Working with At-Risk Populations,” 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursdays, Blackwood Campus.

 

Enrollees may pay $25 per mini-course or purchase a $50 Center for Civic Leadership and Responsibility membership and take an unlimited number of mini-courses this summer. Teachers who participate receive 15 hours of professional development per mini-course or three hours for attending an individual session of a course.
