ADVISORY: CCC students to hold literacy day for elementary school students
WHAT: Members of Camden County College’s chapter of Kappa Delta Pi Education Honor Society will conduct their annual Literacy Alive event for 25 Winslow Township School No. 5 fourth- and fifth-graders. This year’s theme is outer space.
WHEN: 10 a.m. to noon, Friday, March 11, 2011.
WHERE: Room 104, Truman Hall, Blackwood Campus, Camden County College.
DETAILS: Kappa Delta Pi members will set up “reading centers” throughout the Truman Hall classroom and read to small groups of children while other small groups are busy at activity stations. Attending children will receive gift books and refreshments as part of their experience.
Each activity center will focus on a topic related to outer space. Planned are a “universe in a jar” craft, a planet Saturn exercise, creation of rocket ships, a Popsicle stick alien craft and a moon rock station.
Camden County College was the first two-year school in the world to be granted a Kappa Delta Pi charter. KDP recognizes students pursuing education as an occupation and helps them gain extracurricular experience toward their future careers.
